What is the Great Book Giveaway?

For four years running, over 10,000 new and gently used books have been distributed to more than 1,000 families! Throughout the school year, Northside librarians collect gently used books, and our generous sponsors donate new books, ensuring that families who want books in their homes do not go without. This year, students from two campuses—Brennan High School and Holmes High School—will help bag thousands of books. These students will then participate in the spring distribution, making sure that every student, PK–12, has books to read over the summer. 

Visit either location: Brennan HS and Holmes HS, 

•  Receive a bag of free new and gently used books for each child present while supplies last.

• You do not need to be a resident of Northside.

•  Books are available for all school aged students in Pre-K-12th grades, as well as toddlers. 

• This event will be held Thursday, April 30th, 2025 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

• Teachers will receive books for a class with a current, valid teacher ID

  • On site after 6:30 p.m.

  • NISD teachers may also leave their name, campus name, and number of bags needed at any time during the distribution, but you must make your request in person at any one of the three distribution locations.
